From corporate partnerships to community purpose

Bill Nutting is a former senior marketing executive with General Foods, American Express, GE Capital, and Bank One, where he built strategic partnerships with many of the nation's most respected organizations, including The National Geographic Society, Apple, SONY Rewards, AARP, Special Olympics, Charles Schwab, Yale University, Discover Financial and The American Medical Association.

Play it for SeniorsSM was inspired by Bill’s parents and his desire to create something lasting in their honor. A lifelong piano player whose enthusiasm has always exceeded his talent, Bill witnessed how music, entertainment and social engagement could lift the spirits of his parents, Patty Lou and Chuck, spark family memories and create moments of genuine connection. That experience stayed with him. In 2017, he turned it into a mission by founding Play it for SeniorsSM—helping older adults, families, caregivers and senior communities find the entertainment, enrichment and resources that make life more engaging and connected.

Today, Play it for SeniorsSM connects senior living communities, senior centers, aging-in-place caregivers, families, and senior care professionals with a growing nationwide marketplace of local providers, best practices, products, programs, and resources. From musicians, entertainers, instructors, and therapists to in-home services, wellness, mobility, safety, technology, and senior-friendly products, Play it for SeniorsSM makes it easier to find solutions that support engagement, independence, enrichment, and quality of life for older adults.

As part of that mission, Play it for SeniorsSM created Symphony of SmilesSM, a live-performance series that connects high school musicians and theatre students with senior living communities and senior centers—creating memorable experiences across generations through music, theatre, and shared connection.

Technology Connects Us—But Personal Connection Still Matters

Rapid changes in technology have created extraordinary opportunities, but they can also leave older adults feeling increasingly disconnected from younger generations. At the same time, younger people may have fewer opportunities to learn from the experience, stories, and perspective of older adults.

Play it for SeniorsSM brings generations together through music, entertainment, volunteering, shared experiences, and community partnerships—creating meaningful connections that technology alone cannot replace.

We use technology to create connections—not replace them.

“Music showed us the power of shared experiences. Today, Play it for Seniors brings together entertainment, enrichment, wellness, education, services, products and practical resources that help older adults live engaged, connected lives—and support those who care for them.”
