VA Community Living Centers (CLCs)
Operated by the VAVA-operated nursing home settings that provide skilled nursing, rehabilitation, respite and hospice care for eligible Veterans. Eligibility, availability and cost depend on service-connected status, clinical need and location.

Owned and operated by individual statesState Veterans Homes are state-operated — not VA facilities. The VA may survey them and pay a portion of the cost for eligible Veterans, but each state sets its own admission rules, waiting lists and fees.

- Many assisted-living facilities are community providers. Assisted living, medical foster homes and adult family homes that serve Veterans are usually independent businesses, not VA-operated facilities, even when the VA helps coordinate or pay for care.
- Eligibility and cost differ by program. Service-connected disability rating, clinical need, income and location all affect what a Veteran qualifies for and what they pay. Confirm details with the VA or the facility directly.
